Mental health revolves around the emotional, psychological as well as social well being of an individual. It has an overall effect on how we think, feel and act. Physical health plays a vital role in being mentally healthy. You can take care of your body by including as many nutrients as are required in your diet, avoiding smoking and drinking, drinking plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated, exercising in order to keep depression and anxiety away and getting as much sleep as you need because lack of sleep is a known cause of depression.

3)Surrounding yourself with positive people
People who have strong connections with their family and friends tend to lead happier lives than those who do not have a strong network around them. Head outside and meet new people, make friends, or simply hang out with family.

4)Do something good
Indulge in some volunteer work, or do something to help others out and it will make you feel good about yourself. You will also being doing a good deed by helping someone in need.

5)Learning how to deal with stress
Stress is a part of everyone’s life in today’s world. What we can do, is learn how to cope with it. It can be done by exercising, playing with a pet, writing a journal, whatever helps your case. You would also want to inculcate some humor into your life as laughter has proven to be the best stress buster there can be. 

6)Quieting your mind
Meditation and prayer are great activities for relaxing the mind. Not only does it improve your state of mind, but it also improves your outlook on life. It gives a therapeutic effect and helps you stay calm and composed.

7)Breaking the monotonous routine
Routines are a great way to stay organised and meeting deadlines. However, life a little change is required every now and then. Plan a road trip, try out new places to eat, it is okay to go with the flow instead of following schedule sometimes.

8)Getting help when you need it
There is nothing wrong or weak in seeking for help when it is required. If you ever feel that you could use some help to come out of a mental illness, you should not hesitate before asking for help. Treatment is effective and you when you need it, all you have to do is ask.
